Robust and Secure Home Networking Solution
I purchased this switch to experiment with VLANs and enhance the security and robustness of our home network. For those who enjoy tinkering with network configurations, this switch is definitely worth the investment. It’s fast, supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), and offers VLAN support, which were essential features for my setup.
I’ve been using it for over a year without any issues. One of the standout experiences was using it to power a Unifi AP via PoE, which worked seamlessly. Configuring additional wireless SSIDs with VLANs to segregate networks by function required some research and setting up 802.1q settings, but once configured, it was straightforward.
In my setup, I integrated this switch with a pfSense firewall, requiring VLAN configuration in multiple places (pfSense, Unifi, and the switch). While this required extra effort, it saved money and provided a fully functional managed switch for my needs.
I recommend this switch for those seeking a Gigabit switch with PoE and basic VLAN capabilities, as well as for users comfortable with manual VLAN configuration and looking to save costs compared to fully integrated managed switches. It’s a reliable and cost-effective choice for home networking enthusiasts.
